Hosted by the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre on Substance Use (NLCSU), this transformative two-part workshop offers a fresh “re-orientation” for those working in the mental health and addictions field.
Rather than focusing only on personal stress management, this session explores how organizational design and workplace environments impact collective wellbeing. Participants will examine psychological safety through a professional, evidence-based lens and gain practical strategies related to empathic strain, secondary traumatic exposure, burnout, and moral distress.
Facilitator: J.D. Gilmour, Manager of Employee Abilities & Return to Work at Health PEI and global consultant on psychological safety. With expertise in neuroscience and labour law, J.D. brings a practical, systems-focused approach to workplace wellbeing.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Centre on Substance Use (NLCSU) is dedicated to advancing education, knowledge sharing, and harm reduction in substance use health. We work closely with people with lived and living experience, community partners, and health care providers to support evidence informed care for people who use substances. Our work includes training, mentorship, and initiatives such as Project ECHO NL: Substance Use. Please see the attached NLCSU one pager for additional context.
Project ECHO NL: Substance Use is a virtual, case-based learning community focused on advancing care and treatment for people who use substances.
Sessions are open to: Peer support workers, social workers, addictions counsellors, licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physicians, other health professionals, and students. While based in NL, participation is open to providers and learners from across Canada and internationally.
